Before earning my B. Commerce (Honors) Degree in finance and transportation logistics in 2000, I was given a good offer to work as a Management Associate with Citibank N.A. after graduation. I then made up my mind to build up my career in Hong Kong. Having gained some essential business skills and knowledge of consumer banking from my two-year experience at Citibank, I felt that I would benefit from an MBA education to help me pursue an advance career in the corporate world. I did my research and compared all part-time MBA programs in Hong Kong. This led me to apply for and be accepted into the UNI MBA class of 2003.
UNI MBA is taught by world-famous professors flown in from UNI. They taught me how to make my learning come alive. I was impressed with everything: The quality of teaching, the courses, the 12-month time schedule, manageable class time and not to mention the sharing and friendships with my classmates.
While I was attending the UNI MBA program, I got an offer from Westpac Private Bank and started my life as a private banker, learning more about private banking operations and investment. The courses allowed me to work full time and study after work and on weekends. The one-year program enabled me to work while earning a prestigious American business degree and a solid business and management education. This MBA degree further opened me to more and better career advancement opportunities. A few months before I graduated with an MBA, I was hired by HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) Ltd. to develop private and investment banking opportunities in China.
I am now working as the Regional Director of Regional Bancassurance for AIG, based in Hong Kong, where I provide regional support to the Bancassurance teams for business development, distribution strategies, strategic planning, special projects, etc. for South East Asian Countries & bank partners. Prior to my current role at AIG, I was the Deputy Head of Wealth Management & Insurance & CRM for GE Money where she was responsible for the set-up, growth and development of the CRM, Insurance & Wealth Management Departments. Prior to this, I worked in HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) Ltd. and Citibank N.A., bringing in a wealth of knowledge and expertise in private & retail banking, business development, operations, sales & marketing across the region.
Things that I learned from my CBA professors lectures, case studies, problem-based learning and group projects, all proved to be useful at work and valuable for my personal development. With the UNI MBA degree, I am more prepared to meet the challenges of global business leadership in the 21st century.
I am so relieved, happy and very proud of my classmates that we all managed to get through this memorable experience together. Although some periods in the program were quite tough, I can truly say that I have developed life-long friendships with my classmates (e.g. Yomie, Benny, Chelsia, Victor, Peter, Jacqueline, Steven, Nelson, and many others) and that we all have a solid network of business contacts. This was definitely one of my best life experiences. I feel completely enriched on all levels; the tools that I have learned will certainly be part of a very strong foundation that I will continue to build upon for the rest of my life. |
