An MBA is not only a qualification but an opportunity to widen a person's horizons and gain exposure to different industries and organizational functions. My classmates came from banking, finance, manufacturing, and telecommunications, which helped me learn about different fields. Our professors encouraged us to share our experiences and voice our opinions in class. We also had sufficient time outside of class (lunch, gatherings, dinner, etc.) to discuss our daily work and come up with solutions to problems.
I have worked for Abbott Laboratories for six years in jobs ranging from technical sales representative to sales manager. In my current position, I use the skills I learned in my MBA courses to manage my sales team systematically, achieve sales goals, and maintain the profit margin. I know the MBA has equipped me for increasing responsibilities and higher positions in the future.
The UNI MBA program is open and energetic with an American style of teaching. In one of our case studies, Dr. Mitra, who teaches Managing Human Resources to be Globally Competitive, used 30 minutes to let us talk about how we analyze situations. He encouraged us to use our own way of thinking and to share with our classmates. However, all of us used the wrong way to analyze! Dr. Mitra finally gave us the right direction and said that mistakes can help us improve.
I was very impressed with this way of teaching, which I had never seen in the Hong Kong education system; spending 30 minutes listening to the wrong answers! This greatly widened my horizons. I will never forget what I learned in Dr. Mitra's class. |
